Welcome

My Sister and I
Welcome to my little space on the web. I'm Matthew Zagursky, a Junior at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am double majoring in Physical Sciences (concentrating in Astronomy, Meteorology, and Math) and Physics.
Right now, the site is lame because I'm just a poor college kid, but one day it'll be brillant...one day.
I am currently active in two different research projects. My main area of interest is in the large-scale structure of the universe and cosmology. Dark matter, dark energy, galactic evolution, CMB, and alternative theories such as MOND are just a few topics that intrigue me greatly. I currently perform research with Dr. Stacy McGaugh (one of the greatest teachers/mentors I've ever had the opportunity to work with) on Rotation Curves, Galaxy Structure, & Dark Matter of LSB Galaxies.
My second research project is slightly closer to home, Mercury's exosphere. I'm working with Dr. Rosemary Killen on modeling the atmosphere (or lack thereof) of Mercury using MonteCarlo techniques. Not my primary interest, but definitely very interesting to say the least...not to mention this experience is truly broadening my astronomy experience and knowledge.
My Future (assuming I don't collapse upon myself like a dying star):
March 14-18: KPNO Observing Run (4m Telescope using the brand-new NEWFIRM)
May-August: Summer REU at KPNO with Dr. Jennifer Lotz
